I'm a student at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and I'm doing research to map the topology of the Internet.
If you've arrived here, it's probably because you've been the target of our pings.
It is important to note that the pings used in this study are merely network probes and should not be confused with DDoS (Denial of Service) attacks.
The pings are sent with the goal of checking IP accessibility and mapping network infrastructure, an approach inspired by iPlane, while adhering to time and frequency limits to avoid any negative impact.
In this initial step, we are filtering the responsive IPs from the core of the network where we obtained the IPs by analyzing the CAIDA and Ripe Atlas traceroutes.
Each IP will be pinged only once in this initial stage and, in the future, by approximately 100 probes located around the globe, 6 times (once a day).
If you do not want your IPs to be mapped in this way, please contact us so that we can remove the IPs and/or prefixes from the list.
In the future, this study will be published in a journal or conference and will be updated here with the publication data.
Thank you!
